San Diego Poetry Futures 2024 (SDPF24)—the signature public engagement initiative developed and facilitated by 2023-24 San Diego Poet Laureate Jason Magabo Perez—invites local communities, educators, poets, artists, activists, & civic & nonprofit leaders to collectively envision, mobilize, & sustain collaborations in poetry & performance. SDPF24 initiates ongoing, collaborative, & expansive poetic experimentation. Exploring poetry as a form of intergenerational community empowerment, SDPF24 organizes various programs & projects to bridge communities. SDPF24 hosts writing workshops, film screenings, seminars, study groups, craft talks, teacher trainings, & poetry readings at schools, libraries, bookstores, & other community spaces. SDPF24 will culminate in an intergenerational community-responsive poetry celebration. In its commitment to social justice, SDPF24 labors for safe, inclusive, healthy, affirming, accessible, & dignifying spaces for all families & communities. Ultimately, SDPF24 builds on past & present momentum & capacity for the many brilliant & dynamic futures of poetry & performance in San Diego.
